America and Uzbekistan

Every time I start to warm to George Bush, he does something to show that his commitment to worldwide democracy is only skin deep.

This is deeply dissapointing to me as well.

I am a strong supporter of the theory that Democracy is the cure for radical islamism. America's actions so far in Uzbekistan threaten the momentum of democracy movements in the entire region and are sending a message that we will except a thug and a strongman as long as they are nominal allies. With Pakistan there is some excuse as the nuclear weapons of that nation make instability incredibly dangerous.

I am hopeful that the U.S. will reverse course on this and quickly.
